Handmade Keepsake

I can't say enough good things about my Great grandmother.  She was such a beautiful person, she was warm, loving, caring and so sweet.  She was one of the few people in my life to just except me the way I am and not be judgmental or negative.

I have very few items in my possession as my most treasured but this blanket she made is one of those things. She made this quilt by hand.  She made one for all of the Grand children and mother gave me hers.

This picture of her is another one of my most treasured items.

Things that remind me of my Great grammy:

Bleeding hearts flowers and the smell of tea leaves
She used to have these in her garden
Peanut butter cookies
Hers were the best and she knew how much I loved them.
Labrador dogs
She had a black one and a brown one.
Old keys
She had a big collection of old keys in her basement.
Praying Hands
She had a collection of figurines in her kitchen window.
Food smells
Sometimes the smells coming out of my boyfriends mothers kitchen smell like some of the things my Great grammy would cook.

There are plenty of other things that remind me of her, but these hold the strongest memories.

I miss her.

  1. What a truly wonderful and heartfelt tribute to your Great Grammy! What a beautiful quilt and I love the pic of her on what appears to be a 70's Honda 650 twin? Lovely post!
